Witnesses – An individual who, being present personally sees or perceives a thing; a beholder, spectator, or eyewitness. A person who can provide testimony, in a legal proceeding, attestation of a fact or event due to personal knowledge, present at a transaction so as to be able to testify to its having taken place, signs a document attesting the genuineness of its execution.
Locating the witness may not be as easy as the definition, but that is where the experienced investigators at DLG Investigators shine.
Locating a witness begins with collecting as much information as possible about the witness. The information must then be analyzed, eliminate irrelevant data and verified leads which will allow us to located even the most uncooperative witness. We, at DLG Investigators have access to proprietary databases not normally available to the general public, which assist us in locating witnesses quickly and efficiently. When all the databases and information collected proves to be lacking, we must resort to footwork, i.e. knocking on doors and interviewing third parties in order to track and locate the witnesses. When it is suspected your witness is located in a state other than New Jersey we have alliances with private investigation agencies located in most of the United States and some foreign countries. Please give us a call to discuss locating even the most elusive subject.
Once your witness is located we can obtain the detailed statements required for your case. Our investigators review all facts of your case preparing for the statement, so that all details of the case are detailed in the statement. The statement can be obtained in one of several methods:
Type written statement: This statement is a question / answer typewritten document which is printed and provided to the witness at the time for review and correction. The witness is requested to acknowledge each page with their initials and sign the end of the statement which is then notarized. The statement is helpful with refreshing the memory of the witness when the time comes for legal proceedings.
Videotaped statement: This statement is a question / answer interview which is recorded with high definition video cameras providing a superior quality video image and audio sound. A video statement allows for the use of demonstrative evidence or props. Video statements can also be used in case a witness is unavailable in person at the time of a legal proceeding. The audio portion can be transcribed for discovery purposes.
Telephone interview/statement: This type statement can take place with a witness who is located out of state and unavailable to travel to the tri state area. This interview can be audio recorded and also transcribed for discovery purposes.
Remember a legal case is only as strong as the evidence that supports it. Strong evidence must be thoroughly documented whether it be by written word, video or photographic documentation or demonstrative means. We at DLG Investigators have hundreds of hours of training in interviewing, interrogations and statement taking skills. All of our investigators are former law enforcement officers which have developed the fine art of interviewing and statement taking to be able to capture even the minutest details of your case.
